Bournville Razorbacks 0 (F)
Guildford Mavericks 9

Guildford 6th July, 2003

Unfortunately, for the first time this season, a game was postponed as one of the sides was unable to field a team. Bournville had to back out of this fixture due to the unavailability of a large number of their squad.

It is unlikely that this game will be re-scheduled, as although Guildford have an open date on the 20th July, Bournville are due to travel to Croydon, and the following week, which is a Rain Date, Guildford and Croydon have rescheduled their match that was abandoned earlier in the season.

Bournville have had to pull out of several games, in this their inaugural season, due to lack of players, and this is a common theme in British baseball, especially amongst teams new to the league. For anyone unfamiliar with the game over here, it is generally recognised that you need a squad of about 18 players in order to ensure that you complete the full schedule.

If anyone is reading this, and has ever thought about playing the game, no mater what age, sex, ability, then I would urge you to contact either your nearest team (www.baseballsoftball.co.uk  if you are not sure), as I can guarantee, that every team (us included) is on the lookout for new players. Even if you have never even touched a baseball in your life, every team will be more than happy to coach you, and you will be welcomed with open arms. So please, give it a go!

Next week, sees the second team of the Essex Arrow travel down to Guildford for their first meeting of the season.
