Guildford,
April 10th, 2005.
This past weekend the
Guildford Mavericks opened up their 2005 season with a home game against
the Richmond Dragons at their ground of Christ’s College,
 Guildford.
Having been starved of
 baseball
since the completion of the ’04 season last year everyone was eager to
get right back into the swing of things.
New signing to the team
Owen Hazelby lead off on the mound and after a somewhat shaky start
managed to find his feet and pitch a further three strong innings
keeping the game close and not letting a ball out of the infield. He
also contributed at the plate with a huge three base hit in the bottom
of the third, which started a five run rally for the Mavericks.
In the top
of the 5th Karl Grigor
came on
to pitch and managed to smote the Dragons fiery offence long enough for
Guildford to rally back and pull within three runs of tying the score.
But the fates were
with Richmond on this day, for as Guildford drew within three runs of
tying the game, the Dragons managed to record
the final out and end what
was an exciting season opener for your Guildford Mavericks.
