This will be the first
ever Mavs Vets game and it seems very appropriate to me and others that
we mark this occasion in fitting style by competing for the Emmett
Borcik Memorial Trophy.
For those who are not aware Emmett as well as being a good friend of
mine was also Mavericks 3rd baseman for a couple of seasons during the
Maverick early days.
Emmett is no longer with us, sadly taking his own life in Nov 2007 but
as we have done previously we keep him in our thoughts
through baseball/softball games such as these. Knowing Emmett as I did
he would have loved his life being celebrated in this way!
I will try to contact his friends and family to see if they are
available and would like to attend. There will be an opportunity to make
a donation to an appropriate charity working with men & mental health if
people wish to do so.
After the game Richard has kindly offered to organise a BBQ so please
stay after the game and enjoy the occasion. To cover costs there will be
a small charge of £5 per person but this will include food and drink
after the game.
Please support the Mavs Vets debut game it will be a great event playing
the game we all love

Mavericks Vets
New for the 2010 season is the "MAVERICK
VETS".....if you find yourself on the wrong side of 35 and have an interest
in play
ing
baseball for fun without the commitment of playing every week then check out
the MAVERICK VETS.
We welcome existing Maverick squad players,
previous Maverick players and indeed anyone male of female including players
new to the game of baseball.
Our aim is to play one or two low key friendly
games during the 2010 season and if there is enough interest a few training
sessions will be organised to loosen up those stiff old joints!
In
the first instance all we are asking is for people to register their
interest by e.mailing their contact details to
nick.jolly@hotmail.co.uk and we
will take it from there.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
